Hello MFKerers.
My name is john and this is my first time at this forum.
So.... first of all let me get out I'm only 13 :naughty: so excuse me if i tend to misspell words.

OK to start it off. me and my dad are planning on buying a 100 - 200 gallon aquarium for discus.
an we will be building the stand and canopy.
so my dad works a lot and he asked me if i could come up with some schematics. so. over the past few days i came up with a few designs for a stand and canopy by myself :headbang2and i would like all of your opinions if it would work or not.
ok so i drew these up on paint :nilly: very frustrating lol. i did my best though. so i would like you all to give me as strait forward as you can. any suggestions or anything would be helpfull... and also keep in mind i will be building a DIY trickle filter. so any suggestions on that would be lots of help. so I'm gunna try to upload these pics.

Lets see if they will work:

Ok gimme ur ideas peeple :)

And also the back + front will probably be attached by 2x4s with brackets.

looks like a stand...

personaly i would ditch the brackets and go for longer screws as well as either adding a middle brace on the front and back or switching to 2x6s for the top pieces.. 1,200+lbs is not something i would want spanning 5' on a 2x4 in my house..

im also a big fan of overbuilding stands...

+1, though I've yet to build, I draw up schematics for tanks and stands now as a hobby (thanks MFK lol) and I've yet to draw one with 2x4 as the primary material I just think something a 50+ year old man can break over his knee is just not strong enough as a primary material for that kind of stress(yes I know one that can)

just my opinion

2x4's are fine as long as they're used right. In the second pic under the horizontal 2x4, there needs to be jack studs. Two on each side to carry the load and where the 3 small blocks are, take them out and double up the 2x4 and stand it up(header). It will be much stronger.

Here is an picture of a wide door stand if you want to take out the middle support.

My frame after a few hours of work.

Soooo basically.... can someone just tell me what i need to take out/replace and explaining why and any improvements?

Just be as strait forward as you can because i suck at understanding stuff like this lol.
