Out of the hundreds of builds I've read it seems how the tank gets covered always gets ignored. As of right now I just have home depot foam board with holes cut out for lights. Im looking to improve this.

If you have a quick pic to upload of your diy tops or just want to explain. Feel free to share!!!

Glass sheets work good. I have one on my 15. It's not a perfect fit but it works well.

The acrylic and glass are way more than I want to pay. And the eggcrate isn't large enough. To cover my tank I will need two 48x30 sheets of something.. I was thinking about trying the clear corrugated plastic roofing? I could make a "frame" that fits inside the top bracing of the tank then silicone it to the plastics roofing so when its on the tank my big fish wont knock it around?

That could work as long as its not coated in any harmful chemicals that could get in the water.

I like a glass top. You know the plastic thing that goes under rolling chairs in offices? A friend of mine makes all his tank tops from those and it works quite well. He cuts everything very close...and that minimizes evaporation.

Isn't that stuff flimsy? I would think it would sag into the water
