My mom decided to downsize on her saltwater tank, while my gf's dad has a sw tank and his grouper ate everything so he needs new fish ( he got rid of the grouper). So my mom is giving him most of the sw fish ( shes keeping a pair of clown fish, and some other one ). So I stopped by his shop ( where he keeps his tank ), and while there I noticed a huge 6' barrel ( its holding water ). He said I could have it if I brought the fish to him.

So long story short, I'm picking it up tomorrow, my dad wants to breed koi, we need a filter, and thats where you all come in.

I've check around the www and havn't seen anything to good.

anyone on here have an idea to help me set up a filter thats this big?

this filter, is gona need to be able to support 2 x koi, and needs to keep the water crystal clear, and in amazing condition.

Think of how the filter media is layered in a canister filter, you simply copy it, but on a much larger scale.

They sell like 2' diameter pond filters. I will try to find them for you.

If it is a below ground pool i would have a pump to go from the pond to the bucket then have it siphon out at the bottom. Use a pre filter on the pump.

Or Have the pump at the end of the bucket on the way to the pond.

Look at all the possibility's. Here is a good site. I am not sure i would buy from them.

Check this one out. Look at the bioballs in the picture.

Things like that with a really large pump.

Thanks all, i'll check those links out in the morning. I'll also show pics of this thing when I get home. I think he kept car soap in it though :( . time for some BLEACH!

I know what i'm gona do with it now, mods can close this if they want.

Well, Some one gave me the idea of using pvc putting a top and a bottom lid on the pvc, drilling it and putting a buncha sponges in there like a bio tower ( if thats what he called it ). I'm gona first change my w/d filter and just make it all floss, than i will have a second pump in the sump that will be put into the barrel at the bottom, and in the barrel I'm thinking mass sponges, or bioballs, or even biomax. not sure yet :). I'm picking 2 up instead of just 1.

or rather than a second pump, I could just keep 1 pump in the sump and push it up to the top of the barrel, than it can fall into the tank. If this idea works I think it would be an amazing filteration system.
