DIY BEad filter

Hi,

Anybody here using a bead filter for his tank?
i'm planning to build 1 for my 300 gallon tank.
just wondering how big the beads in the filter should be?
also can i use any plastic beads that float? or is there a specific type of plastic to use.

These guys sell the filters and Media...floating and sinking beads....from what I understand they are simular to sand filters.
