DIY Canister (and physics ignorance...)

Sup peeps.

I've had f**k all to do at work today so my brain wondered into the DIY canister realm.

Now, I only just thought of this and my physics is terrible so this is probably going to sound stoopid.:drool:

Also, I realise if it was this easy why would we need pumps at all? Therefore this must be a stupid idea.

Lets say you have one of those 25 L washing liquid drums (the kind that restaurants use) with the tap at the bottom. Let's also say that you retrofit an inlet into the lid of the drum and then retrofit a connector at the bottom (where the tap would usually be).

If you water from the tank coming in on top, would the water pressure of 25 L be enough to return water to the tank (out of the retrofit tap at the bottom), assuming the return is above the water line.

I dont think that u would have enough presser to over come the gravity. It would probaly just fill the return to the same level as the intake inside the tank then stop syphoning right ther.
