It's been a really boring summer and I have practically nothing to do until practice at 4PM everyday. So......I would like to maybe make a DIY Canister Filter. I've never used one before or ever looked into getting one until recently, but it's costly.

Would rather try making one myself. It would be a fun project since my uncle has a bunch of tools I can borrow, I've taken wood shop so I know how to use some tools, I live down the street from Petsmart, and Home Depot is about a mile away if I need anything.

Any ideas how I would make one? What I would need?

This is for a 55g tank with:
-2 pairs of marbled convicts
-1 pair of kribensis
-4 sajicas
-3 rainbow cichlids
-6 bristlenose plecos

i know you need a 5 gall bucket, 2 powerheads or pumps, drip treys, something to house ur beneficial bacteria and....who knows ill let sum1 else pick it up from here!!

some hose??? lol

why not just make a sump like me??

overflows are simple to make and if you have an extra tank layin around convert it to a sump or just buy a 10G from walmart

You might want to do a search. This has been discussed here sooooooooooooo many times.

I spent more time trying to get that search link to work than I would have just typing some answers.

That should be a sticky for when the same question is asked over and over and over and over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://tinyurl.com/lfv3nc
