Well I can put this one in my done column. I built the canopy using good old menards pine. I wanted something that matched the stand exactly and couldn't see spending 700 bucks on the dinky little thing that goes with the set. Let me know what you guys and gals think. I hope the images load.

Looks great! I am building a stand for my 75 gallon. All the store ones make the tanks sit too low.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Stain used was Mohawk penetrating stain so if it chips or gets nicked it will still have color under the topcoat. And then was sprayed with black Mohawk stain. Sealed and then hit with a conversion varnish to hold up to any water. Can't really mess up black in my opinion. As for skill, I cheat. I am a union cabinet maker been doing this for over a decade so it is pretty easy.

For the 3 doors in the canopy... did you make each of those as well or were they pre-made? If you made those yourself, could you provide some tips on how you did it?

Sure I will explain now and add a picture later tonight for you. The doors are made from 5 pieces of pine and 2 pieces of 3/4" by 1" pine. I put all 5 pieces face down on a bench butted a framing square up to them to keep them inline, took the 2 smaller pieces of pine and shot a few nails thru them into the door pieces. The 2 smaller pieces are a couple inches shorter in length then the door.
