Greetings to all
After attaching a canopy i made for my 67gal i started noticing a film of something forming on the surface of the water. The underside of the canopy was sealed with sanding sealer, and regular wood varnish was applied. After bailing out surface water for one week i decided to let the hood sit in the sun for about the same. Not sure if that did anything can someone please lend a helping thought.

Never heard of it but i had a brick in my 10 gal before and after about a day there was a weird color film on the water kinda how you describe. I cant really tell you what to do with the hood but make sure you have carbon in the filter to take out and chemicals and water change maybe 50%?

Well the mysterious film has vanished. dont think it had any negative effects on the fish because there were no fatalities nor were there any illness. Not sure if the carbon did anything since the pollution was on the surface of the water and the filter pulls water from the bottom of the tank, also carbon has been in the filter for awhile and the pollution has only just cleared.

Does anyone know of a better way to prepare the under side of a wooden hood before installation? any advise would be great.

Sometimes Chemicals you put in your tank will do this. Have you added anything with water changes etc... Pobably that...makes an almost oily looking film on the top of you water..

I would have probably used sanding sealer as well. Unless you dropped the canopy into the tank, I doubt it would have caused it. you might have just had something on you hand the last time you reached in.
