DIY chameleon vivarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i like it a lot. the drip system seems like a must. i also agree that the moss would be hard to clean. but that wouldnt be a problem if you just replace it every time you clean it. maybe coco coir for the bottom? that might be cheaper than the moss (dont know what moss costs). what is the cost of your project so far? i would like to make something like this in the future.

the project cost about 60$. it would have cost about 30 but plexiglass is expensive. oyu could probably use acryllic cand i think thats cheaper. thanks, yeah i think the drip system is gonna have to work or the fogger just keeps running out. and the moss is cheap but not super cheap. a bag big enough to cover the whole botom is about 3$. If i replace it every month i guess thats not too bad though.

and the background cost about 15$ to make since i had eggcrate lying around.

ous should write a step my step out to go with the vid ;-) i might use it for other lizards..

It's a good set up. I wouldn't clutter it up with more plants or other objects. You're going to want to see this guy most of the time to make sure he's doling well. He won't drink from the fogger so a drip system is a good idea, but you might have problems running the drip system at a rate where it replenishes the fogger. It might make more sense to use a larger container for the fogger.

Using the moss as substrate is a good idea for maintaining humidity but you'll end up throwing it out with the cham feces and it's not so good in the sense that crickets will have all kinds of places to hide.

with the coir you can get a 3 pack of bricks for $10. 1 brick expanded could probably cover the bottom of your setup like 3 times depending how thick you make it. and you wouldnt need to make it thick since he wont be burrowing or digging.

^ thanks ill look into that

and chaitika i love the look of the bottom being covered so i guess ill just replace the moss every month or so. perhaps every couple weeks.

thanks for the kind comments everyone!
