Guys, every time I use a DIY CO2 set up, I end up getting some of the yeast/sugar mix into my tank. It ends up coating the plants in white slime, and I have to break down the tank, and rinse off the plants, or they won't survive. Its why I gave up on it the first time.

Am I filling the bottle too high? I fill it up to about an inch below the lip which is what I thought I was supposed to do. Anybody else have this problem?

After that initial spill over, I am now getting bubbles but I had to take out my plants rinse them, and replant them, so by the time the plants are rooted, I'm sure the CO2 will run out and I'll have to start over.

Any help is appreciated.

Are you using 2 liter bottles? That is what I use. I don't fill much past the part where the bottle starts to get smaller, so about 3-4 inches from the top.

Yeah, just the 2 liter pop bottles. Maybe next time I won't fill it so full.

What is your ratio of suger to yeast??? Just curious... Wondering what other people use.

I would agree that you are filling it a bit too much. What do you have at the end of the tubing going into the tank? One time I used an airstone, which worked great until it got plugged up. At least I was home when it popped, and everything in the tank survived.

I am using a diffuser from a kit that I bought at a local pet store. The kit had been on the shelf for a long time and the owner said I could have it for 15 bucks, so I bought it.

The kit is called Natural Plant System by Nutrafin.

I fill my bottles up half way... And how are you getting the mix into your tank? Do you keep the bottles inside it?:ROFL::ROFL:

Not really. I think some of the mixture is being pushed up by the reaction into the tube. Once it gets in the line, there is no coming back down.
