You should go to Home Depot and get the egg crates (light diffuser panels). It is in the lighting section. You cut them yourself.
I put foam pipe insulation on the edges and hold it on with plastic zip ties. This allows you to wedge it between the front and back of the tank so it stays in place pretty well (if it isn't wedged in place though, the foam makes it float). You can cut the eggcrates very large for a very tight and snug fit in your aquarium without adding any zip ties or suction cups.
