I am wanting to build a double tank stand. The tank that will go on the bottom will be my 25 gallon aquarium. And on the top will be my 30 gallon terrarium/aquarium, because it weighs less and only is filled with about 7 gallons of water. My dilemma is that both of the tanks have the exact same dimensions except for the height. So I want to build a stand that can support both and that doesn't stick out on the sides of both the tanks. I also want to have a cabinet underneath where i can keep a filter, and a humidifier (for the terrarium on the top). Also I want some access space above the aquarium (which will be on the bottom) so I can clean the tank often. Also I want the stand to look really nice/classy. So does anyone have any genius ideas? Should I plywood? I don't really want to use 2x4's because they will stick out on the sides of both the tanks. However I could use the 2x4's to support just the bottom and hide it by some thin nicer looking wood on the outside. Thanks for the help in advance!

I would find a local welder and give him the EXACT dimensions of both tanks. It could easily be made of 1/8" 1/2 angle iron with the proper cross bracing. As suggested by others, use stick on magnetic strips and wood paneling and you have covers for anything plus easy access.

Besides, those tanks are small and popular enough, you might find a premade iron sand for it on craigslist!

But taller.

I actually have one of those metal stands currently. But what I am thinking of making is something that has a cabinet underneath the stand as well. Also I don't like the look of the metal stands versus some very attractive looking wooden stands that I've seen people make with molding and everything.
