for my 300g with a 1gph drip system. i used 1/2" pvc. the only thing i need to do is lower the output about a 1/2 inch, the water level stayed a little to high, install the check valve and intake screen. it is going to drain into a tee under the sink with 1/2" hose. it never lost siphon and stopped flow at the bottom of the output.

im going to install 2 compression unions for easy adjustments to strainer height and output height

i do have decent plumbing skills. this the first 1 ive made so it can only get better.:grinno: i think the main thing about a diy overflow is understanding the concept. im not looking for certain max flow #'s like for a sump application so tubing size wasnt really a factor.

looking good!

thanks.

i added 1 compression fitting on the outside. i really dont need to add the screen or check value but i may anyways. tested it in the tank last night. it maintained a level of about an 1 1/2" below the top then stopped. i need to hook it to the drain tonight. then run drip line in.

Looks good
I want to do something simular on my future 150ish turtle tank. Wasn't sure about keeping a siphon. I thinki i want to to surface skim but i'm not sure if at a low flow it would be effective. Plus needs something like a aqua lifter to keep the siphon if skimming.

a lot of guys do surface skimming style. some mentioned getting air trapped. i would think a check valve would take care of that. i didnt do much research on that type.

Looking great.

drain hooked up. now i need to wait for the drip emmiter. ill take completed pics after its up and running.
