I built a pvc utube overflow for a 170 gallon. It works well however I am afraid of leaving it for long periods as it is a slow drip and worried it will lose syphon. I bought a TOM aqualifter pump and put an air stone on the output into my tank and then hooked the suction portion of the aqualifter onto the check valve at the top of the utube. Do you think I have any thing to worry about, or is there something else I could do to protect overflow?

I run a couple like that, just 1 gph through 3/4 inch overflow. Once every couple of months I hook my shop vac up to it and check the prime, it also clears anything that is building up in there.
