I've done similar, particularly the second drum with the screw-down lid; however, I've sealed the plumbing as a canister as I don't like paying for electricity
Yes, it's a headache to seal, but you get good with epoxy, polyurethane, HDPE-welding & making/maintaining O-rings pretty quickly. No, I don't think I'd recommend if you don't have to....
