Okay Home depot has a pond filter that does 600 gph, so if i got two of those each going to two 20 gallon tubs that are filled with a prefilter of filter floss then bio balls, then have the water return to the tank.

Woudl this work for my 260 gallon?

Your 260g what? Pond? Tank?

Does the filter have a pump or just flows 600gph? Pond filters do not filter as fine a particulate as aquarium filters.

Why not just make sumps to start with?

A link to the filter and a sketch would really help here.

Also, you can use the search feature in the blue tool bar to find tons of DIY filters.

you could do it much better for cheaper, i've seen those things, definitely not worth the hassle or money. also some more info would help us give you better advice.

if im remembering those correctly the pump in them was either worthless or nonexistant.. building a sump yourself is a way better idea..

agreed. check out my "DIY monster filter" thread. it would work way better than those things and cost a ton less!!! but if you have the space and money for a sump, it's definitely the way to go. just don't go out and spend 400 bucks on a premade one, those thing are an effin rip! make your own, and give us i diy thread :)
