I want to remove a nicaraguan cichlid from a heavily planted tank - without ripping the plants to bits and traumatizing everyone involved of course:drool:. I have used the old 2L bottle trap in the past (inverted opening), but the opening is too small for the Nic. Other than somehow making the opening bigger (I’m nervous about the sharp edges; also not much room to enlarge the opening), does anyone have any other ways to get him out? He’s very skittish so waiting with food in a net doesn’t work (half my Saturday morning!) – he only comes out of the plants when the hood is closed and I’m away from the glass.

Leave a PVC pipe of appropriate diameter and length in the tank for a day or two. He will take over the new dark cave and you can leisurely slip a net over each end whenever you are ready.
