Anybody here has a nice design for DIY Box filter that look nice?
I'm planning to remove the basket with the ceramic inside, but was thinking of replacing the basket with a big Box filter if possible.

Build an OHF or a canister. Friends don't let friends put ugly things in their tanks... like your little basket.

lol :) thanks. I'm prefer box filter as i would like to avoidthe need to add another Powerhead .

ugly or not if your fish are healthy that is what matters. Can you cover your basket with some plants or rocks? or can you build an acrylic box filter in the back and match the background color so it is not so noticeable? I have taken a two liter bottle and painted it black an cut slits in it and put in the back with suction cups to help hide in tank filter media. Your aro looks happy!

This is the main thing that stops me from doing a lot of things, a readily available pressure sealed box. I just bought a used pool filter and have plans to redesign it as a large canister at some point this summer.

If your tank isn't drilled it would be easiest to build and overhead sump, or ohf as pjsmetana stated. You would just run a pump to a "box" abover your tank that drains back into your tank

thanks :) I would like to avoid having to add a powerhead as I'm trying to bring down the electricity cost :) I have a nicer looking basket , But might try to see if i can have a customized Acrylic giant box filter made instead. yup I left the ugly basket in as I'm more concerned about the water quality :)

just a pond pump surrounded by filter media? It wouldn't be perfect but I prefer a nice black milk crate...doesn't look too bad and just find some nice plants to put around it to hide it

This I believe.

You can just cut out 6 pieces and use cable ties to form a box with 5 pieces. Add all the media in it and cover it with last piece and finish it with cable ties :)
