DIY Glass/Acrylic Tops?

I am looking for inexpensive glass tops for my 55 gallon. So my question is, Can i got to home depot and buy glass and tell them to cut it for me? Should i use acrylic or glass?

yeah that will work. i personally like glass lids since you can use a scouring pad when they get dirty. acrylic will scratch if you do that. check the prices at local glass shops too

Acrylic will sag if it doesn't have something to support it. Even 1/4" will sag in a couple of weeks.

What do you think will be the cost of two 23 1/2" x 8"? At least make a estimated guest so i can see if its worth it. Thanks alot!
