i started another thread in the general salt section to ask about green moray care. if you know alot please visit http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=394676

the tank will be about 400 gallons, 4x8x2... ish. the pic shows basic construction but will change some as cheap wood availability changes and i skimp to save dollars. the top will be tabletop glass on the ends and in the middle will be wood to hide filtration and lighting. i started this thread to get some questions answered and have some ideas and advice thrown my way before i start construction.

1. filter ideas?
- the main filter will be an algae scrubber with filter socks but suggestions are welcome. maybe a giant DIY undergravel as well? :naughty:
2. does pond liner hold up as well in saltwater?
3. as far as construction goes, how far can i skimp this down? im trying to go as cheap as possibe.
4. ... ill have more as designs continue and construction begins.

thanks guys :)

If this is a pond-type tank it's going to be a bit tricky as you won't be able to see your eels much because you will have to keep it covered all the time. Unless you get like a screen top or something, then it could work and you'd be able to watch them.

I've had two G. tile and several rope fish, and assorted other eels and never had one jump ship even with a uncovered tank.

You were EXTREMELY lucky. I hear too many stories of beloved eels getting stuck or finding the floor and dying.
