I am trying to find a good heater that has casing around it that is decent but no luck on that. So i was thinking a mini sump on the back so i can just keep the heater hidin and keeps my fished unfried. So i was thinking a simple HOB just modified a little bit but i could see some melting involved. So i need some ides in something to coat it in maybe something else to use. Any ideas?

I was thinking pvc but would that not melt as well?

underwater i think the PVC would be fine....i've seen it done on here a few times

If you have a sump or canister this would work.

wow, great idea. Wonder what wattage i should use. I might as well ask here.

What is a good wattage heater for a 75g?

75-150w should be more than sufficient for your tank, assuming your houses ambient temperatures aren't too low.

As far as heater guards, I got one of those clear plastic tubes meant for storing 4' T12 light bulbs. They are thin plastic, easy to cut, clear, and cheap, and they fit nicely around just about any size of heater on the market. You can cut holes in the back for the suction cups to go through. This is what I did for the heater in my stingray tank, and never had any issues.

Now if you want the heater out of the tank, go with CA_Delta's stuff.

Not sure if this will help but Tetra makes a HOB filter that has a space in it for a heater. And they sell a heater to fit the filter as well.

Good to know, thanks. Any link to the filter?
