DIY Heating ideas for outdoor pond.

Anybody made a DIY heater for an outdoor pond. I am wanting to keep a 500g pond greater than 20c for 12 months a year. It gets cold here in the winter so the pond will be covered at these times (otherwise I would just just have a cloud of mist covering the street).

Ideas ... anyone.

You got a budget?

You can go commercial or diy solar, gas pool heater, electric spa heater etc.

Check out Johnptc big tank thread to see the heaters he used.

Remember you have to keep the filter warm too.

you could look at an inline bathtub heater. I am looking at it for an indoor pond, but I have not looked at the build in thermostat controlls on it. but if you combo it with an aquastat it should work really well and efficient.
