My first time doing a DIY project. I was originally looking at DIY canisters(outside of tank), but decided to make an in-tank one for simplicity and less problems incase of leaking.

Went to home depot and got a 3" diameter, 2' long PVC pipe. I wanted 4" ones but they only had those in 10' long pipes.

They only had 4" PVC end caps...I found some kind of shower grate that fit perfectly but it was $7 and my high school budget told me it was too expensive, so I ended up getting some kind of tile.

Siliconed and leak proof
Going to drill a hole in it for the powerhead.

The other end for water to come out is going to be a grate(not the shower grate). I am going to attach it with screws so that it can easily be removed for maintenance. One problem is that if I want to clean the mech stuff at the beginning of the filter, I'll have to empty everything out.

Total cost so far:
3" PVC - $5
Two tiles - 2 x $2
Plastic grate - $2
Total: $11

The powerhead I think I want to get is the rio 1400, 420gph. Will cost me $26 :(
(I fail at attachments)
