I have a light fixture but it doesn't have the legs or mounts that you put on the side of the tank. Right now, I just put the light fixture on top of a couple books. Can someone tell me how you've made your own mounts for a light fixture.

Lowe's carries a number of fixture hangers and other parts that you can use to make fixture legs.
I took some 2x1 put eye hooks just far enough apart to place the fixture between them then ran jack chain and y'ed it to the ceiling..
