I have a very cheap source for glass in the area, and would like to make lids for my smaller tanks, I know how to make DIY hinges with silicone, but does anyone have any ideas on the plastic backstrip?

I can't just leave a gap, as I would like to keep eels, arowanas, and other escape artists in my tanks!

I was thinking of finding some plastic trim, maybe from a picture/print, to attach to the glass, and maybe attaching that to some plexi glass. That was I could cut the plexi to fit, but I'd love to hear your input!

a peice of acrylic would work.

I was debating on using something like acrylic, but I was hoping to find something that could attach or clamp onto glass. Like some piece of trim, or something used for another application.

And in all reality I could cut a piece of acrylic and make a nice pretty cut with a hole saw, but I will still have another small piece of lid that could move, or fall in the tank. Not to mention an aro could knock it off. I guess I could drill a bracket to hang on the back of the trim to hold it in place.

does everyone just leave a gap in the back? Or am I the only one without a drilled tank?
