I was walking through Lowe's the other day when I saw something that reminded me of one of these

...it was just what you would call |V|onster.

I've always got 5 gallon buckets and a lid in case of emergency so I got the drill and hole saw out to make the external canister portion.

I then took my wood saw and hack saw and cut the pool filter to fit.

Total cost: $6+tax since I had the bucket and fittings on hand.
Cost during summer: $100+tax...gotta love clearance items! :D I'm seriously considering going back and buying every single one they have.

Before I put it in line the water had around 3-5 feet of visibility, after it is like the water isn't there.
Unfortunately the before and after pictures didn't turn out.

can you get pics of it finished inside and out? What kind of pump are you using?

I'll try, the pics I had taken didn't turn out as they were at night. It just looks like a 5 gallon bucket with a 3/4 inch PVC fitting coming out. I'm thinking about taking some old faded boards and two metal bands to make it look like on old barrel, then use a brass fitting on the outside.

It doesn't have it's own pump at the moment. It is filtering the overflow from my 50 gallon aquarium before it drains into my little pond (which is then pumped back up to the aquarium).
