Yeah I'd say so since your mechanical filtration is before your biological. Think I may try this out on a larger scale though.

You don't mention what fish you keep in this tank but watch for the potential of a fish getting stuck to the small opening on the PVC cap.

I have arowana and ntt and some blood parrots , this is just extra filter or some diy thing I try 、 I got an fx5 and a ehiem pro3 for this tank for main filter , one kilo is pretty much media for a small filter I think lol

That filter should work great. Best of all its portable. So if you needed to setup a hospital tank or quarantine a new fish you could just move the filter to the new tank.
