I recently built my new Dual 1 1/2 overflow at 900GPH and made a strainer for the top. With the strainer I made it had large enough slots that I was loosing my food down my overflow. So I had two choices of either shutting of the overflow when I fed the fish or come up with a fix. Some times I don't have time to wait untill they eat so I can turn the overflow back on and I have a self feeder I use if I have to leave town. Anyway this is my fix for a food guard on my overflow.

Very nice. I had the same issue. However I do a 25% water change every day. So as I do my water change I shut my pumps off and feed while I siphon out of the sump and refill. Works for me!! Good idea though. You should put up a video of it running!

I guess if I ever had to use a overflow I would just buy a digital timer and put my pump on the feeding schedule time so it can be of at each feeding for 5 min or how long preferred.

Then again this wouldn't be too good for the pump lifespan.

I always keep a fish or 2 in my sump that takes care of the overflow food. Sometimes fry, sometimes a bully, or sometime an injured fish. Right now it's a nasty young grammode. Wish I could see your videos.

I'm very sorry....I deleted the videos. I re-uploaded them so here they are......... :)
When I go on vacation I have an auto Feeder so I don't have to worry about the food getting sucked into my sump.
