I am trying to setup a drip system for my 180 gallon tank. It has dual overflows in the center of the tank that goes down to my wet dry filter. I built a DIY overflow like the picture attached. I got the design from JK47's drip system which works great on my 75 gallon tank without a built in overflow. In order to hide the pipe in my 180 I decided to put it in the overflow chamber. I have properly primed the DIY overflow and drilled holes where the water level is inside the chamber. I am using 1" pvc piping for the overflow and 1/4" ID tubing for the siphon. The problem that I have is when I add water in the main tank it is not sucking any water over to the other end of the DIY overflow. The water level in the main tank and overflow chamber stays the same but the level in my wet dry filter raises. Anyone have any suggestions why this is happening?
Would it help if I drilled bigger holes in the DIY overflow and maybe a little bit below the water level in the overflow chamber? I don't think that this matter with this type of DIY overflow (but could be wrong) but the side where the water overflows out of is above the water level in the overflow chamber. Could this cause the problem?
Will it work if I built a new DIY overflow and put it inside the tank instead of the overflow chamber or would I run into the same problem?
