how can you know the gallon per hour on a DIY pvc overflow? and the pump should have slightly less of a flow rate correct? It would be used for 180 gallon tank. This question has probably already been answered a million times. sorry in advance.

You can always redirect water flow with a T in the return to throttle down the flow back to the tank. Never throttle down a pump by restricting flow. It will shorten the life of your pump. I have two Quiet One 4000 pumps on my 210 and have two 1" PVC overflows. Works quite well.

careful of the chart from flexpvc. It doesn't account for 90s and such. It is a little higher than what you will actually get. There is a good sticky that is more realistic.

Yep, that is what I was thinking. To be honest, the sticky is still on the high side.

Ok but if I was to use 1 or 1.25 wouldnt the flow only matter on what the pump is pushing back in the tank anyways? all this is good help and ive looked at the sticky before but just wanted to make sure.

On a 180g tank, I would go 1.25 or possibly 1.5. You really can't have too much flow into your sump. Although I think I've read about issues with going with 1.5.

chart doesnt work for me. seems like my 3/4 does about 400ish
