I'm wanting to build an overflow sump pump. Using these ideas from YouTube:

I have a few questions:
1. I don't have an extra tank to use and thought about using a large plastic container. Is this a good idea? Can you make a sump out of a new, large trash can and just change everything to work standing up instead?

2. What is the minimum recommended size for the sump tank?

3. What brand/size of pump should I use? Not looking for a expensive one, just one that will do a good job.

4. I got the idea to build a drip system from this video:
Can I integrate this into the filter system? If so what would be the best way? Should it drip into the tank directly or into the sump?

5. What should the pvc pipe diameters be?

6. I'm wanting to make a alge scrubber. Can I put that in my sump tank?

Accounting to "The King of DIY" on YouTube using his sump design and media, I shouldn't have anything to clean other than the spoung and never need to worry about water changes with the drip system. Which would be awesome bc water changes take for ever to do on my 120. Thanks in advance.

Okay so you can make a sump out a container I recommend a clear one from Walmart or Home Depot whatever is cheaper the better. I would get one that's very long so you can have a tower of a cabinet for media but have enough volume of water to enter when there is a power outage.

The flow rate all depends on the size pump you use. I use heavy duty pond pumps with a good turn over rate and piping and such I forgot what the diameter is but there is a chart somewhere if you look online or Joey from the videos shows you.

Yes you can put algae scrubber in sump I believe he even says it on the videos you can. Just make sure you put a light on there.

Honestly if it was me and doing this again I would do exactly what Joey does in his videos.

having experience of algae scrubber in my sump, i recommend using a separate tank/container for scrubber. small to large pieces of the algae would occasionally fall off the screen and can clog your pump or sump drain for drip. if you want to use in sump, create a large baffle with screen to catch the algae debris.
