I like its clearly audible on the other side of the house on the main floor and its in the basement loud. Im using 1.25" PVC and its on a 125. Theres two of them side by side and ones quiet, not great but tolerable, and the other one, holy crap. The only thing I can think of is its not very well supported because the bends dont touch the bottom so it hangs about 10 Deg's off verticle. Ill try and get some pictures tonight if it will help.

So can anyone point me in the way of silencing these guys? I remember stuff about stand pipe silencers when i first started playing with this but I cant find it now.

are you getting a lot of noise from the water coming out of the tank into your media or the water getting sucked in from the overflow or what ? or is it a gurgling sound ? just wondering

Sorry I read threw the original thread and its impossible to understand.

Yes the sound I am getting is a gurgling like a toilet flushing. Its mostly coming from the stand pipe but its also coming from the inlet in the tank. Right now the water is flowing fast enough that the overflows are having trouble keeping up and the water level is about .25" above the inlets, so I always have some tornado action going on.

Now for history. The overflows both ran for about 5 months without issue. In november I had a major screw up (left a hose running in the tank overnight and killed the whole tank, It was horrible) . So I let it sit for a few months before I came back to it. Now after the refill and getting things rolling again I have this problem.

All of the joints are glued and have never leaked before. Its possible that the check valve is bad but when I blew in it everything seemed good.

xlrdxrevengex- can you be a bit more specific?

Maybe post a video or even a pic of the setup the only thing i can suggest is putting a cap on the standing pipe and drilling a hole in it, as i have heard that will help with some of the gurgling noise coming from the pipe and that it should be above the water line and as high as it can be, if you look at my setup maybe that will explain it a little better i don't have a cap on mine but my pipe is also a lot higher than the water level. and i kinda get some sort of tornado effect on mine although i get most of my noise from the water flowing into my trickle system. but maybe someone else can help you out more

I did this and it help, but it worked even better if I put some filter sponge in the cap as well.

I read about people putting a cap on or routing a tube under the stand to route the gurgle down there :D I am going to try both tonight. This is really going to be a temporary solution as Im working on building an overflow box. I built a cnc router a few month back so that sounds like a fun project haha.

What kind of overflox box are you gonna make ? and post some pictures when its all done and gl with the build on it and hopefully for a temp fix it works for you. :D

look at one of chompers topics (cant find it at this time) but he mounts a piece of airline tubing in the pipe to stop the gurgling sound. As far as the noise from the intake to the sump maybe lower it or raise the sump closer so its not so much as a water fall effect. And if water level is to high might be a good investment to buy a valve as well as replace the check valve especially if it was a saltwater tank as that stuff gets everywhere and dries on everything. That would defiantly be a good safety insurance

the water fall effect has almost no sound. I would have to get pictures to show what I did to achieve that, its too hard to explain. I did take some fittings I had laying around last night and closed it down from 1.25" to .75 and that made a world of difference.

the overflow box I want to make is something like chompers made here:

but i want to do heat bends instead of fiddling with all the little glued pieces.
