When you guys make a DIY overflow out of pvc pipe how do you decide on the pipe diameter? Do you glue the pvc pipe together? If so what do you use to glue it?

Depends on tank size.

Do you glue the pvc pipe together?

Yes.

PVC primer and glue.

:)

1" should work fine for a 150 unless you want some crazy amount of flow. Even at that, you could make 2 1" overflows in case one of them plugs or gets trapped with air.

150g + ? sumpsize ? X 5 = ???

Turnover is the number of tank volumes pumped though the system per hour. In this calculation the sump volume does not matter.

I have a 150 and I run it at around ~900gph or more (I'd have to check the pump box to be exact). Anyway, one overflow doesn't keep up unless I were to run it deep which defeats the purpose, so I use Two 1'' overflows.
