A few months ago, Clicked on the MFK post below and was impressed with the simplicity of the concept, that was new to me (I guess its been around a while though).
Overflow a DIY for Aquarium Pond
I have never had luck with most of those convoluted bulky PVC overflows I've seen before, and tried, but didn't like how large and overbearing they looked, and my versions never worked properly, they always seemed to lose siphon at some point, so way too much stress.

After ending up with a used "none dril" l tempered glass tank a few weeks back, and the two one inch drill overflows already in my main tank not being able to keep up with the GPH flow I wanted, this seemed a good adjunct..
After the cutting and drilling holes was done, it took only about 5 minutes to throw this thing together.

Above the 1" PVC cut to fit the space between tanks, below, placed and working.
At some point I will probably shorten the green tube a little.

You'll notice a 1" cap left bottom, the on the right an improvised cap, due to the lockdown, I couldn't get to the mainland for another 1" cap, so I used a 1/2" in a reducer I had on hand.
The green tube I had laying around, was from an old canister I find to puttsy to bother with.

Above, the outflow from from the 180 to the 125 (its only an addition to a few other overflow lines).
Below the intake hole on the 180 side.

I plan on making another one using maybe 1.5" PVC and a wider diameter hose for stronger flow, and maybe using this one as a redundant tank overflow for the rainy season.
The tank is outside and gets plenty of rain and runoff from the roof, so better than having the tank itself overflow over the sides.
This is the main overflow line (below) from the 180 to the 125
