I am looking to make my own food pellets for my future RBPs and I had a few ideas as to what I want to mix together. I have my own garden with plenty of veggies, but I will have to go shopping for some meat. What would be the best meat (cheap plz) to mix in with veggies for a balanced RBP diet?

Also, I live in Minnesota and have a ton of lakes nearby...could I catch say Sunnies, Perch, Crappies and feed the fillets to the reds?

ITT: noob questions :grinno:

Lake fish are fine IMO, some say they may carry parasites from the like that you dont want to introduce to your fish, just fillet them and freeze before feeding if you are really worried about it . Should get rid of most or all.

From the store, get tilapia or catfish. both prett cheap. Also cod, haddock, shrimp, etc all work.

feeding them fish you catch should be ok as long as you freeze it, but i would stick to panfish rather than bass, northern, and walleye due to the higher concentrations of contaminants in predatory fish.

man, I love bass...should I not eat it too??

i love it too, but they normally only recommend 1 meal per week of bass, northern, and walleye from most lakes

1 meal as for what size fish? 10lbs is one meal or 2lbs could also be one meal.
not that I catch 10pounder all the time just want to get an idea.

a serving of fish for a person is usually anywhere from 4-6 ounces, doesn't really matter what size fish

Hey Joe, noticed you also live in Minneapolis. Where would be a good place to get fish food for juvenile RBPs? Haven't really looked too much at A World of Fish or Aquatropics for food, mainly pricing out 1"-2" reds...also, Forest Lake Petstore is amazing when it comes to competitive prices (FX5 for $100)
