i need to know if it would be okay to make a sump out of ply wood with a pond liner or something to line it??? also is it okay to use pvc pipe as a j tube for a hob over flow? i want to boost my gph a little so rather than the 1 inch tube it came with i was thinking 1.25 or 1.5 and for the sump i was thinking a modified Berlin stile set up. with twin filter socks then some bio stuff then a pump.

Yeah, I've made a plywood sump and lined it with a pond liner. There's another guy on another forum who did the same but put wheels on it.

Was thinking of doing the same thing with the wheels so I could keep the height of the sump compartment down but still have good access. Of course it would have to be two smaller sumps rather than 1 large one if it was going to be wheeled around with any ease. Might be madness. :grinno: :screwy:

Edited to add: Incidentally I made a hood with plywood lined with pondliner, its an instant way to water proof without having to worry about drying times and toxic chemical release as with water proof paints.

Any container that's sturdy enough to hold the water and is fish friendly will work.

Make sure you put in a anti-syphon hole just under the tank water level.

Keep us posted (w/pix of course),

I forgot to do this once, ALMOST made a big mess!

myth busters made a plywood sumthing to holdwater, and epoxied it.

MY sump is plywood lined with epoxy. Not as quic as a pond liner I guess, but tidier.
