Im looking forward to building a 2250L/594G tank. The inside measurements are 300x100x75cm/118x39x29" (LxWxH), how thick would the glass have to be and how thick should the plywood be?

I will be posting more questions in this thread when needed.

At the top of this forum there are a whole series of stickies. There you will find the answers you seek, but seek you must.

You'd need about 16-17mm thick glass for a decent safety factor. Dunno what is available to you.

Those dimensions are about 577 gallons. You'd need probably 3/4" minimum. 1" plywood would be safer. With a good brace design. I'd look at a few of the other plywood tank builds in the 500+ category and see how thick they used. Builds that have water in them I mean.

Thanks Muni, you have a nice thread yourself. I would probablu use 2.6cm thick plywood sheets then, if available, will have thicker rather than thinner for safety. Hmm, braces are something i have to think about, maybe 4-6 braces?
The tank will have a 100-150g sump also, so the cost will be massive, but that wont stop me!

If you build it yourself it can help keep costs down if you know what your doing. If this is your first project with wood working then it might be a good idea so start with something smaller.

At the very least build the sump first so you can see how things are going to work for you and the tools/materials you have. Its not a lot of experience but better then nothing.

P.S. You have a typo in your signature.

It's "substitute" not tude.

Lol. Sorry. I love that show so it can't be misquoted. But I respect the fact your not from the US and English may not be your primary language.

Sorry, not really a typo, just writing fast and not thinking. But one member here said the quote is "I reject reality and..." but it is and you can see Adams t-shirt in several episodes that it clearly says "I reject YOUR reality and...."
I actually sometimes think that i can speak/write english better then icelandic, but i like your style, you like big tanks and hate spelling errors.

It is my first build, and i sure am not good at building stuff, i tend to screw up simple things and i am 15.
But i have ambition and finish what i start.. eventually.:WHOA:

I have my family to help me.:D
Wish they where more supportive though.:(

Well your young so start with small projects for now. When you move into your own place in a few years you will have the experience needed to build a true MONSTER tank.

The only reason i am asking those questions is because i am planning the tank, and drawing in google sketchup, wont start building in another 2-5 years or so.
