ok guys im needing to get my plywood tank coating ordered BUT what is the best to use and im talking epoxy and how do you get diffrent colors ???

ive used epoxy paint by sweetwater.. the only place i know that sells it is aquaticeco.com. they come in a limited number of colors. the only other option is to buy pigment. you can get that from uscomposites.com. im going to attempt using their epoxy as well. havent heard much of anybody using it on this site tho..but i like to experiment.

Has anyone every tried useing truck bed coating? I have a friend that puts it on at a auto-body shop. He uses some kind of gun that heats the coating up then sprays it onto the beds. He claims it will stick to almost anything.

that would work but the only problem with bed liner material is that when spraying wood it has to be completely covered. say if you spray to the edge it will peal off. I personally have sparyed several types of truck liners over the years. It would work but the whole thing would have to be covered with no seams and primed very well becouse the wood holds moisture even a drop will cause the materal to fail (swell up into a big sponge) when being sprayed. one drop can ruin the whole thing. I have sprayed plywood ect and it did work but my personal opinion it would be more trouble than its worth.

never tried it..but i guess its water proof. all you have to do is figure out if it leaks any chemicals out into the water over time. that stuff sticks to metal so i imagine it would stick to wood. ask the guy what kind of material it is...

my 250g wood ply tank got 3 layers of epoxy glassfiber and a finnishing coat of P1 pond kote,a two part water based epoxy paint,it comes in clear, blue green or black. It covers easily,i;m very happy with it.

We've had alot of discussions on these products here, try a search to get the most info.

Sweatwater is good and has been used by several members, just a little pricey. But then again it all is getting pricey.

Some bed liner material exudes oils for a while and needs to be cleaned several times, best to use this idea in the summer (I don't know if it's sprayed anywhere but here (FL) in the winter since it would be alot of trouble to heat a shop for it, of course they do spray cars in the winter, so).

you could use bed liner, then coat over it with epoxy paint to make it fish safe. I almost did that but i used Laticrete 9235 water proofing membrane for the base shell then went over it with 3 coats epoxy enamel .

I recommend coating a shell of some kind. Fiberglass, west systems,Laticrete roll on shower pan water proofing is what i did. Then go over it with marine epoxy paint. that way you know for sure it will not leak.

I could never just trust plain epoxy pain for the water proofing. but that's just me.

mmm... so it does leech oils, maybe a bad idea.

Epoxy paint over a flexible foundation? Hhmmm.

Not all do and it's usually a very temporary thing, some hot water and a degreasing soap and a few washes and your good to go. I like to set it out in the summer sun to chack for exuding/leaching oils.
