How would i go about building a tank longer than 8 feet? say like 16 feet how would i join the seams so that they wouldnt leak? Would fiberglass netting work with epoxy? I want a really long and low tank in my garage.

I knew someone that built a 16ft plywood tank out of, essentially, 2 8ft tanks. One end of each tank was cut like it was going to have glass installed. Instead of glass, the two ends were sealed together and all wood surfaces were coated with epoxy and fiberglass cloth. So, the fish could swim from one tank to the other through this window.

I've built several plywood tanks and I have to urge that the epoxy is definitely used with fiberglass cloth. Especially at all seams and joints. The fiberglass cloth stiffens these joint areas against stretching and warping.

Concrete block might be an idea here. It's cheap, and it doesn't flex. It won't rot. We are moving soon. And, I am going to build a big pond in the basement.I am thinking of mobile home skirting for the facia.

what you can do, but it might be a little more expensive, is to take 2 pieces of 8 foot plywood, and then put another 8 foot piece of wood over the seam (centered), and then 2-4 foot pieces on each end of that. so your doubling the thickness of the wood, and I think once you screw it together and epoxy it, it will be as strong as hell. also it depends on how many glass windows your going to put in. one big piece, or 2 pieces, etc.. I also heard the tempered glass is 4 times stronger than plate glass. 1/4 temp. is = to 1 inch plate. check in to that, but that is what I was told.

Good idea. If you were going to use 1" plywood maybe you could use half inch plywood or 5/8 th inch plywood. One more thing, NO PLECOS!!! They will eat through your epoxy lining and that will cause your tank to leak.
