Hey guys here is what I'm thinking if I take apart my 55g I will have 3 panes of 48 by 18 inches of glass can I make a plywood square aquarium with three sides using the glass panes framed into the plywood? I will fiberglass the inside. The new dimensions of the tank would be let's say 50 by 50 by 20 inches to allow a thick framing for the glass. Would the pressure not be around the same as the 18 inch high previous tank? Is this viable? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If the exact dimensions of the old tank is 48x18x18, this would be a 65 gallon. But if you make the new tank taller, you are jeapordizing the strength of the glass. I would build your new tank to the same height as the glass. If it remains the same height, then the same amount of pressure will be the same as the old tank, regardless of the new dimensions..

Pressure-wise...yes.

Just be mindful of the true dimensions of your glass when coming up w your design.

Also hopefully your bottom glass isn't scratched up from substrate etc.

You can make the tank taller, just keep the glass at the top of the tank. Done this before and it worked fine. Just FYI. I used a 2x4 on side to get a extra 3.5 inches in my tank,it also works nice so you dont have to see your substrate at the bottom.

I agree w the above, in adding height below glass as long as you don't push it. 3.5" is probably pretty good, i had over 6" when i turned my 55g into a 180G and i hated missing out on seeing so much of the bottom.
