I don't think one 55g drum is going to be enough for 2,000g. The rule of thumb I've heard recently for ponds is the filtration system should be ~10% volume of the pond. This was on a koi forum, so stocking levels must be considered.

No reason why not if it's big enough to handle the load, you want the uv last before the pond return though, any more details, pond size stocking ratios? 2000-5000 gallon is a huge difference.

As for the 10% rule for koi, it used to be for optimum filtration you need a third of the pond surface area again for the filters, today this is not the case now with modern medias and specialist units like the nexus, all of which can be achieved in a much smaller area.

ok itll be about 1000 gallons maybe bigger
two 55 gal drums like the ones i planned
two submersible pumps going to each filter
and the rainwater from the gutters going through
a dirt and leave net and going into one filter
sound good
will be stocking with 2-3 comets
5 koi
2 australian eastern long necked turtles
AWESOME!!

Why not install one bottom drain instead of the two pumps it'll work out about the same price? Connect that to one vortex then through to the drum, pump return from there, most of the solid waste will be removed before it gets to the main filter.
Is the pond round or sqaure and what depth do you have planned?

Love your avatar btw:)

im an amateur when it comes to bottom drains
the filter will be up higher than the pond so
bottom drains cant do that right?
ponds about 30" deep
and i can't be bothered installing a bottom drain and all that other stuff
yea i think the avatars cool

Your filters need to be level with the water level of the pond if you use a bottom drain
