im helping make a pond for my mom and would like to make a filter. i found an old pool filter bottom. i was thinking of using some bio balls, scrubbies and some type of rocks or pebbles using Plexiglas to separate.
any ideas for the filter would be greatly appreciated

Nice job.

Are you wanting an in-pond filter?

And I'm sure it has to look pretty, right?

no its gonna be set at the top portion of the pond. ill use some plants later to hide the filter

so the only media int he filter is gravel...i was gonna try to use the hole in the bottom front as the return to the pond...do u think its still possible with the barrel filter?

It needs a pre-filter and will depend on the bio-load, but if it is low, you can try a mix of lava rock and gravel like you have in the bag (pictured). Either use a filter sock or poly-fil on top of the gravel (place a drip plate under the pre-filter material). As the bio-load gets larger (fish grow or are added), you can add another stage on top of the filter you have by setting a 5g bucket with holes in the bottom on top of the present filter and place the pre-filter on top of it.

Turn the pond water volume over about once every 2 hrs to start with.

Keep as many water plants in it as possible too.
