I have been trying to figure out how a homemade pond filter works out of say a rubbermaid bin with pumps hooked up ect. Could someone please send me some links or plans to make one of these? Thanks.

I did make one like this. Tubes + 30G rubbermaid bin + 1100GPH Iwaki pump.

At first I got some troubles because I was thinking the using the pressure of the close system. However, the iwaki pump is not as strong as I expected. Thus, I only use the pump as the returning water pump. And use the gravity to fill water.

The total cost I spent is about $100 included the iwaki pump. I will make the Pressure system again for my next pond.

It's working well so far for my 210G tank. If you want to have the bigger system for your pond. You have to have very very powerful pump as 6000GPH +

Hope this helps you understand it how to make a biological filter cheaply.

Enjoy, good luck.

Do a little searching for DIY wet dry and DIY sump builds. You can use a lot of the same designs and principles for building pond filters.

any other ideas on filtering my 1200g pond? not a big fan of the rubbermaid tote filters
