I'd basically gotten out of fishkeeping temporarily and have kind of started working on a little reptile business venture (see my reptile room thread in DIY for more details) and while working on setting up a reptile room in the basement, I realized how cool it stays down there (which is a pain for keeping most of the reptiles, amphibians, and bugs I plan on housing). Even with it getting up near 100 outside, it barely gets above 75 down there. I've decided to embrace this and take another crack at keeping sturgeon in a separate area of the basement. I'm already planning a small indoor turtle pond for the reptile room, but now I'm thinking about a 4-500 gallon lined cinder block pond for a sturgeon as well. If necessary, I have a mini-fridge to rig into a DIY chiller, but I don't think temp. will be a big issue as long as I keep aeration going.

Basically, my question is: what would be good ideas for a DIY filter to sit above a 500 gallon sturgeon pond, also what pump would be recommended for a setup this size?

A bakki shower type filter. I used a three cabinet plastic storage bin for my filter. You know the ones used for organizing stuff. Drill holes in the bottoms of the trays and have a bulkhead pointing into the pond on the lowest cabinet. Just put your media in to the separate cabinets.
