Ok so I have been wanting to put in a pond since I bought my house almost a year and a half ago. Problem is there are lots of raccoons around here and I didn't want to go pouring a bunch of money into something that will only be destroyed. I looked at preformed ponds and they were too expensive for me, besides the fact that I have very limited space and and prefored pond was either too big or was just those little bucket shaped ponds. Well I was sitting on my deck this morning and remembered the spare 50 gallon rubbermaid bin I had sitting around. I set it on the ground on the only place I had room for a pond and it was a perfect fit. I got a pump for free from a friend who didn't need it anymore, and I just happened to still have a $25 Lowe's gift card left over from Christmas, so I went down and got a plastic waterfall for $14, which turned out to be free! I have plenty of spare rocks laying around, so as soon as I am done decorating I'll post pics!

So because I have a small yard and a limited budget that makes me drunk? I guess I'll have to sober up and get more money, a bigger yard and a bigger pond. Till then I'm perfectly happy with what I have...

Since it is so small I was thinking either a single goldfish, some mosquitofish, a single yellow perch, or 3-4 of a smaller species of sunfish. The perch would probably be the best bet since it does get somewhat cold in the winter here, although it will rarely freeze over.

thanks a nice concept man :)

I like your free pond. I think I would try to use some slate, rocks, etc. to try to hide the handles of the bin, and maybe throw some plants over by the waterfall. Bet if you try hard enough you could do that for free too;)

That's a great cheapie outdoor setup. I've done similar with Betta splendins, but I used the bottom of a poland springs standup bottle and no pump.
