Let me start by saying I'm no Mr. Fix-it. I attempted to build a wood stand for my 40gal breeder. I did a search and found what I needed and about a day later I built what I thought was a pretty good first attempt. Set everything up and noticed that the tank didn't really sit on the stand a 100% level. So in my genius I got out the wood shims (and from researching found out this was my error) and leveled the tank. Great job! Not really a week later I sprung a leak.

So now I have to reseal my tank and fix my stand. I was going to scrap the stand but reconsidered, I didn't want to give up that easy plus I spent some cash making the stand and didn't want it to go to waste. I think I fixed the stand problem now I'm going to attempt the reseal. My wife said in the end I'm gonna put more money in this project than going out and just buying a new tank and stand:irked:, I'm determined to prove her wrong which I never do, but there is first time for everything. I just hope this doesn't become the never ending project or the million dollar tank and stand build.

You could just have put a piece of foam under the tank. Depends on the stand i guess.

But.... for about 100-200 bucks you can probably get a stand and tank off craigslist in the 55 gallon flavor. A lot of people throw in filters and fish, even small children occasionally.

Foam doesn't level, it evens. Shimming can work, you just have to shim the stand, not the tank.

You could very easily cut the foam to be thicker on one end and thinner on the other. It would level nicely

I think that would be more trouble than it's worth. You would have to figure in the compression rate of the foam and so on. He'd be better off to stick with shims.

That's exactly what I did wrong, I shimmed the tank.

Scraped all the silicone out and used alcohol to clean it. Going to clean it again tomorrow morning and make sure I got out all the old silicone, then reseal.
