Hi All, It's been nearly 9 years since I posted here last! Between family, work and lack of space and time, I haven't been able to keep fish. Finally, that is starting to change and I am going to be able to get back into fish keeping! :D

So I need your help and comments during the planning and building of this project basically! I'll be posting regular updates as this progresses over the next couple of months.

Tank Size: 78"L x 30"H x 24"W (Being custom made) 12 or 15mm glass. Opti-White.

Filtration: 2x FX6 or Sump? I need to research this a bit more as I have never run a sump. Have been using canisters since the 80's! The water here comes out around 20-30ppm Nitrates :( so that needs to be considered.

Lighting: 2/3 x AI Prime or Ecotech (Something smart app-enabled / wifi)

Wavemaker: Ecotech (Something smart app-enabled / wifi)

Water change system: I am thinking that a continual drip system may be the way forward.I want this to be as easy and as maintenance free as possible.

Fish stock: Still undecided but will probably be freshwater cichlids.

This is the initial plan, what do you think? Existing bookshelf will go. This build will be floor to ceiling and the existing skirting boards will wrap around the new setup making it look like it is meant to be there. Coving will also be installed at the same time. This room is around 3M wide and 6M long. Drawing is to scale 1:20.

Welcome back to the Hobby! I just like you just got back into the hobby after a long break. It’s nice to see some real plans to build a custom tank, (there’s a lot of hypothetical tanks on here lately). What’s your stock going to be? I’ve always ran canisters but for a build like that I would go sump If your location allows it. Good luck can’t wait to see it up and running!!

Your foot print sounds very close to the footprint of a stock 210 72”x24”x30”. Just curious why not just go with that rather then custom for the extra 6”. I mean it’s going to save you quite a few pennies. Just a thought.

Thanks Wolfman, I'm googling and youtubing sumps as we speak to try to learn it all!

Not sure about fish yet. Probably CA/SA cichlids.

Who doesn't want another 6"? :D In all seriousness, it fits the dimensions of the room better and is only another £100 or so.

Ok, so a few changes since last time! This will now be a marine tank. Increase in size to 70x30x30.

Triton method sump, bean animal overflow.

The first few bits have started to arrive. I'm like a kid at Christmas!

Got around 40kg of real reef rock/plate here too. Going to start dry aquascaping it soon.

Still waiting on the second 15,000 Jecod return pump amongst lots of other things.

Little bit of progress today. Got the skirting boards removed ready for the carpenter, the wall pretty much cleared and got the RODI plumbed into the right spot for auto top off :)
