Has any body out there made there own protein skimmer with some plastic tubing, some old cups, air stones and a small pump? I have a old gravel vac laying around that would make a great intro chamber and then could make my own venturi with some smaller plastic tubing and a plastic cup for a collection chamber. I could hook up a power head to the main chamber to help with more water flow. Get a air pump and a super fine air stone, place it inside the main champer and watch i bubble away. Has anybody done this? Has anybody made their own protein skimmer any other way for cheap? I'm looking for something rated for at least 30 gallons.

Just don't try to push too much water thru it.
