I would like to see some pics of those DIY protein skimmers you all have out there. I would also like some help with one for my 20 gallon soon to be reef. I've been gradually informing myself about reef keeping and gradually obtaining the necessary components to keep a healthy softie reef. It has been a few months but I now have my 20 gallon tall blacked out in the back. My PC Light system, 2 300gph power heads, 10 lbs calcium carbonate for base rock. I really want a skimmer and eventually turn my old AC110 into a hang on fuge. I hear it is really easy to glue in some baffles and voila...fuge.

But please help with a DIY protein skimmer!

I haven't had to make one yet but this site has the materials that you need
Clear PVC Pipes-Schedule 40

Hello,

I am in the process of perfecting my DIY Protein skimmer. It was made with 4" PVC and liime stone, since the air pump is more gentle in the electric bill. Unfortunately the lime stones are getting harder find and expensive. Recently I upgraded to a water pump injecting air to the skimmer. So far is working good with some additional modifications to the skimmer itself. I found a piece of 6" PVC on the side of the road and I am thinking about upgrading the skimmer to 6" and see which perform better. I will post the results and some pictures of both skimmers with details for the construction of them.

Good luck and good reef keeping,

Kalamata...

There are some awesome kickass DIY skimmers on reef2reef.com ... I hate to take people away from here, but I know nothing on the matter and some of the guys over there are getting it down to a science it looks like. Good luck, post a thread/pictures if you go through with it!

Their search function sucks on that website, but I am now in the process of trying to dig something up for you guys. Hold tight.

Check this thread...by the time you get on hopefully someone will have responded to me...I have seen some in the last couple weeks but cant find the threads.

The search for "DIY Protein Skimmer" yields only threads including the words "Protein Skimmer" from the section of DIY...this wouldnt be a problem if the DIY didnt share the same section as the "Lighting, Hardware, and DIY".

Hope this helps...in the long term. :D

The second thread is a for sale thread...but you can see some pictures of a DIY skimmer.

The first thread is starting to get some views, I will try and find the link that one of those guys is talking about.
