so I have been kicking around the idea of making my own food for my Fahaka... there seem to be a lot of recipies.. but didn't see any made specificly for puffers... soo if I were to make my own are there certian items I should be sure to include or exclude since it is gonna be primarily for my Fahaka...

also I have empty pond snail shells.. has anyone tried to pour a DIY mixture into a shell so they can get the benefits of crunching the shells open..
Thanx...

how big are the shells?

If i was going to do it for the puffer i'd include clam meat along with shell-on shrimp. If you hav small pond snail shells, maybe mix them in after you've blended all the ingridients together.

that would be kinda cool to use the pond snail shells just use something like a syringe or pipette to fill them up with and if you use gelitin to set them you can have the food over fill the shell a bit and look more realistic

ha ha I thought this thread would just say "add two convicts to twenty gallons of water and let sit for ten minutes."

well.. tried the basic "throw a bunch of good **** into a blender and add gelatin" routine.. my cichlids, goby and fire eel love it.. I tried to pour some into the pond snails.. and it looked like it was gonna work ... they looked really pretty... but.. they floated... I tried knocking a hole in the "top/point" of the shell to expel the air.. but it still floated.. so my fahaka didn't pay any attention to it..

thats not good. Maybe you need a different recipe for the food?

no chances are there are just air pockets in the shells. They go very deep down in spirals since thats how snails grow, and it would be pretty hard to since them. Maybe cush them into smaller pieces and throw them into the blended stuff (don't blend the shells though)
